Importance of seat belt while driving-The best way to evade the trauma injuries!!! By Dr. Junior
Road traffic accidents are the third leading cause of death among many populations in the world. Therefore, when the calculations are being done on the statistics for the proportion of the age group, there is the increased number of small age children that are affected by the road traffic accidents or RTAs. The main reason for children ending up dead during RTAs is that the majority of them are not wearing any seat belt. Hence, most of the children who are less than 2 years of age are travelling the laps of their parents. Therefore, when any accident ensue, these children are tend to fly off and in this way, the blunt trauma or any other cause during RTAs will cause the death of the smaller children and in adults.
There is the great deal of research that is being done in finding out that how the trauma in these age group patients can be evaded. Many automobile companies are designing the seats in which these little children can fit, and through accidents, these children can be saved with no problem. However, there is one more research that is being done by medical communities; it is the finding of the relationship between the number of RTAs deaths and the ethnicity link between them. Most of the time, there are many people who can die due to some racial difference, however, when it comes to the conducting of the emergency surgery, there is much more new things which are being discovered on the everyday basis. Therefore, finding the differences in this is not obvious on the results shown.
When the racial factor has been considered in the patients, then it is found that nearly 47.5% of the small children are being restrained when travelling. These include the children of Native American, Hispanic and Blacks. On the other hand, when the statistics of the emergency procedure has to be carried out in the patients suffering from RTAs, 12.6% of the patients require emergency surgery, the morbidity rate was 6.7% and the mortality rate was 5.8% for the children who suffered from RTAs. According to the team of researchers, there is the development of the scoring system to assess the depth of injury namely injury severity score or ISS. When the score is high, then the patient shall be rushed for the emergency surgery, while for the patients who have the low ISS score, non surgical measures can be taken into account.
